PowerMin wants only 3 orders/ company in bulk NTPC tender

Press Trust of India / New Delhi July 1, 2009,

If a power ministry proposal is accepted by the government, a single company can bag only 3 orders in the Rs 21,000-crore, multiple contracts tender by NTPC and DVC for procuring power equipment, severely hitting BHEL which is expecting to corner a lion's share of it.

"Power Ministry will take the proposal to the Finance Ministry for its approval and as soon as the ministry (Finance) gives its nod, NTPC can float the tender," sources said, adding that to avoid a monopoly-like situation, the ministry wants that a single player should not get more than three such orders.

There are certain terms and conditions which would be put forward by the power ministry in connection with the tender such as indigenous manufacturing facility of the bidders, sources said.

To avoid monopoly, the power ministry wants that a single player should not get more than three such orders and has conveyed the same to the finance ministry.

NTPC would float NIT (Notice Inviting Tender) for procurement of 7,260 Mw supercritical thermal power units. The eleven units comprise two 660 Mw units of DamodarValley Corp (DVC) and nine by NTPC.
