NTPC energy audit saves 50 crores

In a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), NTPC has announced that the company has entered into a Joint Venture Agreement with the state-run power utilities-- NHPC, PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) -- to float a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for setting up a state-of-the-art online high power indigenous test laboratory in the country. The laboratory will have a short circuit testing facility, which would help test electrical equipment as per international standards.
Further in a bid to reduce auxiliary power consumption, six NTPC power stations have adopted online power management systems. Addressing a recent press conference, held in New Delhi, R S Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC, has claimed that in the year 2008-09, NTPC has carried out 105 energy audits at different power plants, resulting in savings of Rs 50 crore worth of power
