All India installed capacity
March 26: CEA has issued the capacity of power projects currently operational in the country, as on February 2009. Data is segregated by the four categories of power generating units -- thermal, hydro, nuclear and renewable -- along with the region-wise distribution of the capacity installed.
As per the data issued by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the total installed capacity of the country, as of February 28, 2009, stands at 1,47,715.51 MW. In this, the share of the thermal power stations stands at 93,475.34 MW or around 63.28%, followed by hydro power projects that contribute 36,877.76 MW, or around 24.96%, to the total capacity. The contribution of the renewable sector also seems to be significant, with an estimated share of 8.9%, while the country's nuclear power stations, which are run by the state-owned enterprise, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), have a capacity to generate 4,120 MW of power
