The Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) is most likely to start supply of power by December 2009, according to Mr S.K. Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL). Speaking at Koodankulam, near Tirunelveli, following the 22nd joint coordination committee meeting with Russian delegates, he said more than 95 per cent of the works in the first unit had been completed and generation of electricity would most likely start from December 2009.

The Koodankulam power plant would have eight 1,000 MW reactors, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) Chairman S.K. Jain has said. Jain, who was here to participate in the 22nd joint coordination committee with Russian delegates on Friday, said "though I cannot say anything now, I think the number of reactors at Koodankulam will touch eight, though inter- governmental agreement between India and Russia was only for six reactors."
