YAMUNA NAGAR: 300 MW unit no. 1 of Yamuna Nagar thermal plant which has been on forced outage since March 31 last year is likely to be lighted up this week with the assistance of Chinese engineers.
According to sources a group of Chinese engineers have been hired by HPGCL to assist and guide the local engineers for proper operation and maintenance of thermal units at Yamuna Nagar and Khedar. Both the plants have been constructed by Reliance with the Chinese machinery from same company. The presence of Chinese engineers will help in resolving various problems which has cropped up in recent past.
The thermal unit has been on forced outage allegedly due to failure of turbine blades. As the equipment could not be repaired locally in India L.P. Turbine rotor & LP Turbine inner-inner casing were sent in the month of June to China at the works of manufacturer.
The equipment was received back at the plant site after repairs in second week of December. The inspection of material was witnessed by HPGCL engineers in China. HPGCL engineers were hopeful that they will be able to bring the unit on bars within one month.
According to sources, after installation of turbine the problem of turbine vibrations persisted. It was decided to reinstall all the fittings with the association and direct supervision of Chinese experts to rule out any problem. HPGCL authorities now hope to light up the unit later this week.
The problem faced by HPGCL engineers was that major portion of technical literature supplied was in Chinese language and they were not familiar with Chinese technology. The engineers were not able to follow all the instructions. Earlier it was decided to depute two engineers from Yamuna Nagar and Khedar for learning the Chinese language at Delhi. Subsequently state power Minister had said that they will be engaging few Chinese experts on contract basis to solve this problem.
