GURGAON: The upgrade work on Gurgaon's power supply apparatus is slated to begin on the first day of the new year, according to officials of the power distribution company, DHBVN. The region-wide campaign will cover both the urban and the rural supply infrastructure, concluding in July next year, as per the set timeline. Officials claim that this 'strengthening of the supply systems' will result in fewer blackouts in the coming summers.
"The campaign is aimed at refurbishing the whole distribution network. We will be setting up additional transformers, poles and conductors wherever required. Maintenance of old transformers, and augmentation of their capacity will also be carried out," said an official.
On Tuesday, it was announced by the officials that a full-scale preliminary survey for the upgrade work is soon to be completed. "The DHBVN has completed 80% of the survey which will be followed by the maintenance campaign," the official said.
Over 3,500 villages have been marked for next year's campaign, which will also touch upon the power lines of 186 wards and sectors in various towns within the DHBVN ambit. "Monthly schedules for the campaign will be ready by December 25, and by January 1 the work will begin," an official said.
The effectiveness of this new campaign will only become evident a few months into the next year. But the discom's other ongoing drive, to cut the line losses in the state, is beginning to show its effect, the officials say. The rural consumers have been the main target of this latter project, and the discom had recently offered an incentive-based scheme in which the villages that bring down the power losses are awarded electricity on urban mode.
"Till now, we have provided power supply on urban mode to around 88 villages, which have provided land for construction of substations free of charge, and have completed conditions of metering and recovery of bills," said another discom official.
