Haryana gets nod for power distribution reforms

CHANDIGARH: Haryana is one of the first States in the country to get approved power distribution reforms projects for 36 towns which are covered under Part I of the Restructured-Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) of the Union Government, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Power Ashok Lavasa said here on Tuesday.
Projects
Presiding over the third meeting of the State-level Distribution Reforms Committee, he said the Union Power Ministry had recently approved projects worth Rs.158.36 crore for Haryana to implement the reforms programme and modernise the power distribution system. Mr. Lavasa said the main objective was to strengthen the overall power distribution system and reduce the aggregated technical and commercial losses of Power Utilities. He disclosed that implementation of the Information Technology Plan would go a long way in minimising interruptions and breakdowns and improving the quality of power supplied to the consumers.
A Disaster Recovery Centre and Date Centre would be set up at Panchkula and Hisar respectively to ensure timely implementation of the scheme in the towns for which the projects had been sanctioned. These towns include Ambala City, Ambala Cantt, Panipat, Sonepat, Pehowa, Panchkula, Kalka, Yamuna Nagar/Jagadhari, Thanesar, Shahbad, Cheeka, Kaithal, Karnal, Gharonda, Gohana, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, Narwana, Jind, Hisar, Barwala, Fatehabad, Hansi, Tohana, Sirsa, Dabwali, Ellenabad, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, Palwal, Faridabad, Hodel, Narnaul and Gurgaon.
