PSEB engineers demand up-gradation of transmission system

PSEB Engineer’s Association has demanded the up gradation of transmission and sub-transmission system in Punjab in view of upcoming of new thermal projects.

Baldev Singh President of Association said at a press conference today executive committee deliberated the urgent need to augment the transmission and sub-transmission system in Punjab keeping in view the commissioning of the new upcoming power plants both in the State as well as Central sector plants in which Punjab has a share.

He further said that at present, the system is highly overloaded and is not sufficient to ensure evacuate the extra generation to reach the end consumers. Enormous work has to be done to strengthen the transmission and sub-transmission system .He alleged that PSPCL and PSTCL managements are not taking enough measure to create infrastructure required to tackle this issue. Association called upon the managements to look into the issue on top priority.

Sanjeev Sood General Secretary of Association thanked Parkash Singh Badal, CM Punjab for giving go ahead to PSPCL for constructing 2x660 MW thermal plant under state sector at Mukerian. He stressed upon PSPCL management to gear up its activities to commission this thermal plant within the stipulated time frame.

He further said that since generation under the state sector is urgently required and moreover adequate coal is also available in captive coal mine allotted to state at Pachhwara in Jharkhand. He demanded that PSPCL management to frame the blue print for the execution of the plant and create the necessary infrastructure in order that there is no cost and time overrun.

The executive committee further deliberated the debt restructuring scheme of Govt. of India and feels that state govt. should avail the opportunity for the debt restructuring. However, it opposed the franchisee model in the distribution sector as advocated in the scheme since in Punjab distribution engineers have been able to improve the performance and efficiency including reducing the AT&C losses in the present set up it as demonstrated in Patiala city’s distribution system. .

The executive criticised the separate recruitments already carried or in the process by the companies are in violation to the Tripartite Agreements. Association demanded that common recruitments be done for both the power companies .Newly recruited engineers should be given same pay and allowances as being given to existing AEs
