The revival of 300 MW Yamuna Nagar thermal unit no. 1 may be further delayed by another 6 months as LP turbine rotor is being sent to China for repair. Haryana is paying the price for sourcing its power plants from China as three out of four turbines supplied to Yamuna Nagar and Khedar thermal plants have broken down
------
THE STATE of Haryana is reeling under long power cuts due to forced closure of 1200 MW of generation for last few months, and is losing 288 lakh units daily generation. The unit 1 of Yamuna Nagar thermal plant in Yamuna Nagar district, has been on forced outage since March 31 due to damage of turbine blades. Now, HPGCL has issued a tender notice for transportation of L.P. Turbine rotor & LP Turbine inner-inner casing from Yamuna Nagar to China by sea route.

Share As per the HPGCL website, the transportation work will start in the second fortnight of June and transporter should complete the work in next 45 days. It may take another four months to get back the repaired equipment at site. The unit will remain on forced outage for another six to seven months.

The unit 2 of Yamuna Nagar thermal is already on forced outage for the last nine months for bending of turbine rotor. The rotor has been sent to the works of Siemens and as per CEA web site the scheduled unit of commissioning is October 30.

The turbine blades of 600 MW unit at Khedar were also damaged and unit is on forced outage since April 28. The Chinese engineer has proposed repair of turbine blades but HPGCL engineers have demanded their replacement. The unit is not likely to be revived at an early date.

All India power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) have already been raised the question of quality of Chinese power generation equipment with Ministry of Power and claimed that this is a problem of National dimensions and it cuts across organizational lines. The availability of spare parts has become a problem as some of the Chinese products are introduced and taken off the market fairly quickly.
