The perennial power supply shortage in Haryana is set to get even grimmer this summer. Almost after a week the state’s 300 MW Sir Chhotu Ram Power Project broke down, the authorities are yet to start repairing work at the unit here in Yamunanagar.

In September last year, another 300 MW power generation unit broke down and is still awaiting technicians to repair it.

Sources at the power plant in Yamunanagar said the unit authorities had got in touch with technicians based in China regarding repairing the broken-down units and that the repair jobs would commence soon. A team of officials from New Delhi had also visited the site in February and had taken stock of the situation then.

In September 2011, the rotor of one of the units had broken down and the repair job was to be completed even more than six months after.

Sources said that even after one of the units had broken down, the authorities had chosen to delay the repair work so far.

Speaking to Daily Post, chief engineer at the power plant Sushil Bansal said, “We have got in touch with technicians based out of China and they would be sending a team of technicians to rectify the problem soon. There is no need to panic as we would be able to get the repair works done soon.”

There is no question of deliberately delaying the repair jobs as the team of officials who visited and inspected the power plant in February had specifically asked us to get in touch with senior technicians based out of China, Bansal added.
