Jalandhar: The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) Chairperson, Romila Dubey, has said almost 20 per cent of the actual power generation went wasted at different channels in Punjab including electric motors which are used in the agricultural sector.
She attended a public hearing on the proposed electricity tariff for next fiscal (2012-13).
Interacting with the media persons here on Wednesday, she said that there was a need for using star-rated motors in the agriculture sector which would reduce power wastage in this segment. Besides, the farmers would also get rid of their old and re-winded electricity-guzzler motors at their tube-wells.
She said that the PSERC had directed the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PowerCom) to constitute committees at village levels to discourage power pilferage. She had advised the authorities to constitute these committees by inducting social servants at village and mohalla levels to keep a strict vigil on every possible power pilferage.
Earlier, she heard the complaints and issues of industrialists, traders and general public.
They opposed any further hike in power tariff and monthly charges in next fiscal and apprised the PSERC that the tariff was already high, resulting to which their economics were getting disturbed
