Surprised why there have been so many unscheduled power cuts for past couple of days in the Gurgaon- six thermal units have been closed down at Panipat, Yamunanagar and Khedar. Despite overdrawing, the whole state has been facing acute power shortage.
THE INTENSITY of unscheduled power cuts in Haryana has increased following closure of thermal units at Panipat, Yamunanagar and Khedar.
The closure of 6 thermal units including newly commissioned 660MW unit at Jhajjar has forced the utilities to increase the duration of power cuts. The closure of 210 MW unit 6 at Panipat thermal today early morning further worsened the power position. Unit 2 at Panipat is already under maintenance. The power availability from Panipat has been reduced to 840 MW against 1040 MW on Monday.
Two units of 300 MW each at Yamunanagar thermal plant are not operating. The turbine rotor of one unit has been sent to China for repair and it will take another 4 to 6 months to restart the unit. The second unit is down due to boiler leakage.
One unit of 600 MW capacities at Khedar is also down due to leakage problems while other unit is running at average of 500 MW. It produced 120 lakh units yesterday. 660 MW unit at Jhajjar (CLP) after its commissioning last month within a record period of 3 years never produced any power in absence of coal stock. The coal supply to plant has not yet commenced.
The power supplied in state was around 912 lakh units comprising of 484 lakh units of power generated by states thermal plants. The state resorted to overdrawing from grid to the tune of 195 lakh units yesterday. The power shortage in state despite overdrawing was 127 lakh units.
