Three PANIPAT thermal units trip in foggy weather

PANIPAT: The load crash due to tripping of transmission lines in the foggy morning led to tripping of three thermal units at Panipat.

Power supply in parts of Haryana was disrupted today morning after thermal units no. 6(210MW) , 7 and 8 (250MW each) tripped at 6.45 AM when transmission load crashed from 3345 MW to 2375 MW. Earlier the unit 3 of thermal plant had tripped today and unit 2 is also down due to technical fault for the last 10 days.

The generation dropped from 1900 MW to 1140 MW and cities of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rohtak Panipat and Karnal faced the major power cuts. The thermal units were revived one by one with a interval of 15 minutes after 9 AM.

600 MW Khedar unit 1 is under maintenance from December 1 to attend boiler and other technical problems. The unit was scheduled to come on December 15 may come early next week.

300 MW thermal unit no. 2 at Yamunnagar is down since September 25 last due to high turbine vibrations and entry of water in turbine. The damage to turbine bearings and rotor of turbine could not be attended locally and rotor is being taken to China for repair.

The state is officially facing a power cut of 6 to 8 hours daily and unscheduled power cuts add misery to the people in these cold winter days. Power shortage in state is 170 lakh units while power availability is 865 lakh units. The maximum shortage is during peak hours which varies between 1450 to 1650 MW.
