Haryana’s first irrigation and power police station has been made functional at Gurgaon w.e.f. January 01. This will deal exclusively with offences relating to all cases of theft of power and canal water under the provisions of Indian Electricity Act and Section 379, 430 and 431 of Indian Penal Code etc.
In a press release issued here on Monday, the Director Vigilance, Parminder Rai, said that the police station set up at Gurgaon would cover district Gurgaon and Mewat. Similar police stations would be set up at Ambala, Karnal, Rohtak, Jind, Rewari and Faridabad in due course of time.
“The state government has already issued notification to set up the police stations at these places. These will cover district Ambala, Panchkula, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat, Jind, Kaithal, Rewari, Mahender Garh, Bhiwani, Faridabad and Palwal,” said the director.
He maintained that the Government would also notify the setting up of another police station at Hisar which would have jurisdiction over the revenue districts of Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa. Rai further stated that stringent action as per provisions of the relevant Acts would be initiated against the defaulting consumers to curb theft of electricity and canal water.
