Power situation set to improve in Haryana

Power generation coming from thermal plants in Haryana will ease power position in the state. The power situation in Haryana is set to improve further in next financial year with commissioning of 1320 MW Mahatma Gandhi super thermal power plant at Jhajjar
ACCORDING TO sources the civil works at ash dykes, commissioning of coal handling system and construction of ash handling plant is likely to be completed by month end. Central Coalfields Limited is to supply the project 5.21 million tons of coal per annum from its North Karanpura coalfields.
Share The project is being executed by China Light & Power India Private Limited on a build, own, operate and maintain basis. The project was awarded on tariff based competitive bidding. Letter of intent was issued on July 23 2008 and power purchase agreement was signed on August 7 2008.
According to sources, the commissioning of the transmission line from Jhajjar to consumption centers at Rohtak and Sonepat is also likely to be completed by year end. The transmission project is set up by KT Transco Pvt Ltd – a Special Purpose Vehicle created by Techno (49 per cent) and Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd (51 per cent).
Haryana will also get 25% share from NTPC 1500 MW thermal plant at Jhajjar as the third unit is expected to be commissioned in coming months. The second unit was synchronized in October this year.
At present one unit of Khedar thermal is under shut down while one 300 MW unit at Yamunanagar is down for the last two and half months due to technical reasons. The state will overdraw from the grid during the period when Khedar unit is under maintenance.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been finalized for procurement of 2113 MW Power through tariff based competitive bidding. Power Purchase agreements have already been signed with Adani for 1424 MW and with PTC for 300 MW. Power is likely to be available from financial year 2012-13 onwards.
