Power situation grim in Haryana
V K Gupta
The power situation in Haryana continues to be grim for the last one month. Power cuts ranging from 10 to 16 hours a day have become routine. Furthermore, the state is producing 1832MW against the generation capacity of 3230MW.
THE CLOSURE of three thermal units one each at Khedar, Yamunanagar and Panipat has worsened the position. The critical coal stock at Panipat and Yamunanagar points to no respite from power cuts by DIwali. The coal stock of 1200 MT at Panipat is just sufficient for one day. Unit 4 at Panipat is down due to boiler leakage.
Share The coal stock at Yamunanagar is 37000 MT is sufficient for 5 days. This is despite the fact that one unit is under shutdown since September 25 due to technical problems in turbine. Though officials claim that the unit will be operational in the next few days but the staff claims it may take weeks to diagnose and set right the fault in the turbine. The 600 MW unit at Khedar is down due to technical problems for the last two days and its revival date has not yet been indicated.
The power shortage in the state is to the tune of 200 lakh units, and power supply is just above 900 lakh units. The state is over drawing more than 100 lakh units from the northern grid. The schedule drawl is around 300 lakh units but it is drawing more than 408 lakh units. The state is producing 1832MW against the generation capacity of 3230MW.
