Chandigarh: Attempt aimed at ensuring safety and environmental standards at Panipat and Yamunanagar plants
In an effort to ensure environmental safeguards in its power generation plants, the Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) has decided to obtain ISO 18001 (Occupation, Health and Safety Management Systems) and ISO 14001 (Environment Management Systems) certification for Panipat and Yamunanagar Thermal Plants this year.
Out of the eight firms, in the race to grab the tender for providing consultancy services for the plants, the corporation has decided in favour of a Chandigarh-based company. Sanjeev Kaushal, Managing Director of the corporation, told The Indian Express that the corporation has also ensured corporate facilities at its office at Panchkula and besides obtaining ISO certification for its two prestigious thermal plants, the corporation has also decided to get ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) for its corporate and project and planning office at Panchkula.
Power sector, especially the thermal power plants, are known for polluting environment and sub-standard safety measures. Most of the times it is not possible to reach to the level of environment standards and the power plants avoid getting this kind of certification.
