Jhajhar thermal plant in Haryana may be delayed

CHANDIGARH: The commissioning of 1500 MW Indira Gandhi super thermal power project Jhajhar may be delayed, as BHEL is not supplying equipment in time.
As per schedule first 500 Mw unit of project is due for commissioning in April 2010. The other two units are to follow after a gap of three months each. All the three units are supposed to be commissioned by October 10 well before the start of commonwealth games.
Jhajhar thermal plant is a joint venture of NTPC, Delhi and Haryana costing about 7892 crores.
The equity participation by Haryana in the project is 25 percent and while its energy share is 750 MW. NTPC is having 50 percent equity share and while Delhi has 25 percent.
According to sources BHEL has already delayed the supply of turbine and its parts for unit no. 1. NTPC has accused BHEL of delaying the IP and HP turbine assemblies for first unit. NTPC sources maintain that In case the supply of turbine by BHEL is not completed before the end of this year it would not be possible to meet the scheduled target of commissioning. Even in case of unit no. 2 BHEL must complete all supplies by March 10 so that it could be commissioned in July.
BHEL has been accused of delaying the supply of equipments for various projects in India. In Punjab the delayed supply by BHEL for Lehra Mohabatt unit 3 and 4 delayed the commissioning schedule by more than one year and cost escalation running in to hundred of crores of rupees.
