CBI registers case against four officials of Damodar Valley Corporation

NEW DELHI: The CBI has registered a case against four officials of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and a Kolkata based consultancy firm for causing a loss of Rs 245 crore to DVC.
According to the FIR four DVC officials in connivance with their consultants awarded the contract of setting up of coal handling plant at Meja thermal plant to a Gujrat based firm ignoring the lowest bid submitted by a New Delhi based public sector company. The work order was worth Rs 387.5 crores
The case has been registered against then Director General (11th Plan Project), since retired, Superintending Engineer (Mechanical), Deputy Chief Engineer (Mechanical), and Deputy Financial Adviser of DVC along with Kolkatta based consultancy firm by CBI.
A K Jain President of DVC Engineers association said that they had sent a number of representations to Central Vigilance Commission and Ministry of Power regarding high-level corruption in DVC. The association has been demanding CBI enquiry in other cases also.
