‘Review progress of rural power scheme’

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has instructed the Collectors across the State to review the progress of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme in their respective districts to ensure its benefits to the target groups and release power connections to the below poverty line (BPL) families on priority.

Mr. Gehlot met the Rural Electrification Corporation’s Chairman and Managing Director P. Umashankar here over the week-end and discussed with him the scope for financing of electricity sub-stations at the village panchayat level in the desert State.

According to an official release here, Mr. Gehlot gave instructions for speedy implementation of the electrification scheme as well as the formulation of project reports to find out the scope for funding of new power production projects.

Mr. Umashankar pointed out that the Rural Electrification Corporation had approved schemes worth Rs.7,000 crores and sanctioned loans worth Rs.5,000 crore to the State during the past two years.

The Corporation is likely to sanction more schemes valued at Rs.6,000 crore to Rs.7,000 crore during the current financial year.

Rural Electrification Corporation’s Director (Technical) Guljeet Kapoor and Chief Project Manager Harsh Baweja and State Principal Energy Secretary Shrimat Pandey were present on the occasion.
