UP govt will set up 2 new power projects to produce 910 MW

Lucknow: A big step in development and to provide relief to the people facing power crisis, Uttar Pradesh government will set up two new projects in the state to produce 910 mega watt of electricity.

"While 660 MW power project will be set up in Harduaganj, another of 210 MW will come up in Panki. Both the projects will be executed by UP Vidyut Utpadan Nigam," official sources said here today.

The two new projects were approved by the Energy Task Force headed by state chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta during its meeting held yesterday, they said.

Rs 170 crore and Rs 85 crore has been allocated for both Harduaganj and Panki projects respectively, they said.

"Following ETF's approval the proposal will be tabled before the state cabinet soon," the sources said, adding that the projects will take four years to start power generation.

At present 220 MW power is generated in Harduaganj, where two new units of 500 MW each are being installed. 210 MW power is generated at Panki thermal power station.

To prepare detailed report on 1980 MW power project in Sonebhadra to be set up on public-private-partnership (PPP) model and 1320 MW project at Jawaharpur in Etah, the ETF finalised the name of consultant, they said.

The ETF has also decided that 2000 MW power project will be set up in Lalitpur in the first phase instead of 4000 MW project proposed earlier.
