Acting on strict instructions from the Prime Minister's Office, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL) along with associated agencies are working on a war-footing to complete the new 250 MW power plant at Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS) about 25 kilometres from the district headquarter of Bokaro Steel City by August end.

Official sources informed that the power plant is almost ready for production, but the work of building coal handling plant along with the evacuation system is unfinished. "The delay in ash evacuation system is a major cause of apprehension," added the sources.

Almost daily the chairman-cum-managing director is evaluating the progress in the work. The critical areas have been identified for speedily finishing the work, informed the source, adding that work at the site was on round the clock.

The Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited is constructing two power units -- Unit-7 and Unit-8 -- of 250 MW each at CTPS at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

The two units have been delayed.
