NTPC is exploring possibility of setting up new coal power project, taking up R&M of old stations and also sourcing of field in Kazakshtan
NTPC Limited (NTPC), country's largest power utility, is likely to set up power plants in Nigeria and Srilanka, a top NTPC official said. "Proposal is being pursued with the Federal Government of Nigeria for setting up coal and gas based power plants in Nigeria and sourcing of gas for NTPC's plants in India," Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC, R S Sharma told PTI after his visit to 648 MW gas based power plant at Jhanor.

Two 250 MW coal based power plant in Trincomalee region in Srilanka will be set up for which site is being identified and a joint venture Ceylon electricity company is under finalization, Sharma said.

NTPC is exploring possibility of setting up new coal power project, taking up R&M of old stations and also sourcing of field in Kazakshtan, he said.

It is also pursuing coal blocks amongst NTPC, RNRL SAIL NMDC and CIL for sourcing coking coal and thermal coal from abroad for which International Coal Venture Pvt Ltd was incorporated on May 20 this year.

The Joint Venture (JV) will explore various opportunities in Australia, Mozambique, Indonesia and Canada etc, Sharma said.
