CHANDIGARH: Haryana Government aims to add 500 MW renewable energy based power generation by the year 2012.
While stating this here Sunday, a spokesman of the Renewable Energy Department said that the State Government had been promoting Renewable Energy Sources to meet the energy demand of the people. A policy on Generation of Electricity through renewable Energy sources had also
been notified to attract private sector investors.
He said that the State Government had approved Detailed Project Reports for setting up of 20 biomass power projects of 183 MW capacity, 4 small hydro projects of 10.8 MW capacity and one Solar Power Project of 3 MW capacity with private sector investment of about Rs 803 crore. A 6 MW small hydro project would be commissioned by December 2009.
He said that three projects of 4.8 MW were commissioned in Cooperative Sugar Mills at Gohana, Sonipat and Meham. Two such projects of 40 MW in cooperative sugar mills of Shahabad and Rohtak had been set up which would be commissioned soon. One Biomass project of 2 MW for
captive use was commissioned at Bharat Starch Industries in Yamunanagar and another such project of 3 MW was under installation at Kurukshetra.
He said that Haryana Government had initiated many programmes for demand side management and energy conservation in the state which resulted in saving of 86 MW of electricity during 2007-08 and the State was awarded first National Award for Energy Conservation by the
Union Ministry.
He said that Haryana State was the first state in the country to replace conventional bulbs and fluorescent tube lights (40 W) with CFLs and T-5 Energy Efficient tube lights (28 W) in Government Offices and buildings. So far, over 1.12 lakh CFLs and over 1.14 lakh T-5 tube lights had been installed in such buildings with an investment of about Rs 5.03 crore resulting in saving 23.60 million units electricity annually and saving of Rs 9.44 crore in the electricity bills annually.
He said that energy efficiency projects for Municipal Streets had been implemented in MC, Hisar and Panchkula. The old street lighting fixtures had been replaced. In MC, Hisar, a peak load deduction of 465 KW with an annual saving of RS 76.83 lakh in the electricity bills had been achieved while in HUDA, Panchkula; peak load deductions of 405 KW with annual saving of Rs 67 lakh in electricity bills had been achieved. Now these projects were being extended to MC Gurgaon and Faridabad.
He said that the State Government was also promoting solar water heating systems as demand side management measures. 1000 systems of 100 liters capacity contribute to peak load saving of 1 MW. The Government was providing rebate in electricity bills and subsidy on installation of solar water heating systems. During 2008-09, these systems of 2.06 Ipd capacities were installed in the state resulting in peak load saving of 2MW and saving of 3.09 million units of electricity annually. So far, Solar Water Heating Systems of about 12 lakh liters had been installed contributing to peak load saving of 12 MW and resulting in saving of 18 million units of electricity annually.
He said that as many as 702 villages in the state had been made 100 per cent CFL villages with installation of over 6.71 lakh CFLs resulting in saving of 95 million units annually. For new electrical connections, use of CFL had been made mandatory and for BPL consumers two 20 watt CFLs were provided free of cost at the time of release of connection.
