EVEN as 96,000 employees of the state power utility withdrew their day-old strike, officials of the Maharashtra Health Directorate have struck work to press for their demand for higher wages. Besides, over 14 lakh state government employees too want to follow suit.
Around 96,000 employees of stateowned power utilities called off their strike on Tuesday evening after the state government agreed to raise their pay scale by 30%. The striking employees had demanded a 60% rise in their salaries but have agreed to the compromise formula of 30% hike. The employees of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company, Maharashtra State Power Transmission Commission , and Maharashtra State Power Distribution Company were demanding higher wages for the past one year.
Employees of all companies under the Maharashtra State Electricity Board had launched strike from Monday midnight demanding a higher pay. The management of all four companies on Tuesday agreed for a 30% raise after the strike badly crippled the states generation and distribution functions.
