Six state power boards make profits

NEW DELHI: Orissa and West Bengal are among the six states to have generated profits after their state electricity boards (SEBs) were restructured, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Giving details during Question Hour, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said while Orissa registered a profit of Rs 755 crore, West Bengal recorded profit of Rs 372 crore.
The other states that reported profits were Gujarat (Rs 102 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 341 crore), Karnataka (Rs 301 crore) and Maharashtra (Rs 675 crore), he added.
Only these six states, out of 14, had made profits after SEBs were restructured, Shinde said.
Shinde was answering a query raised by Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandopadhyay on whether West Bengal State Electricity Board had registered a loss of Rs 1,000 crore..
