16 Jun 2009, TNN

LUDHIANA: PS Gill, deputy chief engineer (suburban area), PSEB, informed on Tuesday that a person allegedly caught by the department for misuse of
power, was creating ‘undue pressure' on officials to withdraw the complaint registered against him.

At a press conference held here on Tuesday, Gill said one Jasbir Singh, a resident of Syal Village, was allegedly using pressure tactics on them to withdraw the complaint. He said under the anti-power theft campaign, Gurmanpreet Singh, SDO, conducted an inspection at Syal village on June 12 and found two illegal motors of 7.5 BHP being used by Jasbir for irrigating his fields. However, when the SDO tried to register a complaint, the accused allegedly tried to create hurdles in the process of investigation by putting pressure on him through some influential persons. Gill said a case under Section 135, IPC, had been registered and a fine of Rs 1.14 lakh had been imposed upon Jasbir.

The officials further said that such incidents hampered the process of investigation. Gill alleged that many times, accused went scot free as influential persons tried to save them by forcing them to withdraw the complaints
