BBMB achieves annual generation target in 9 months

CHANDIGARH: Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) achieved the given annual generation target of 10023 million units (MU) on New Year’s Day. BBMB power houses generated 10042 MU up to January 1 in the current financial year. As per CEA daily generation report of January 2 Bhakra power house(1325MW) generated 4901.96 MU, Dehar power house(990MW ) generated 2878.57 MU Pong power houses(396MW) generated 1416.20 MU and balance of 845.47 MU by canal power houses(145.3MW) to make total generation of 10042.20 MU.

BBMB supplies power to partner states Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh at about 24 paise per unit. During first half of this year i.e. April-September-2011, BBMB achieved the highest power generation of the decade i.e. 7440 MU. Ashok Thapar Member Power BBMB said that though benevolent rains played a role in facilitating this feat, excellent upkeep of power houses, reservoir management and consistent management efforts to enhance worker's motivation contributed a lot to ensure this performance.

BBMB expects additional generation of 1950 MUs during remaining 3 months .This amounts to giving a relief of about Rs.731 crore to the partner states taking a conservative energy purchase rate of Rs.3.75 per unit, said Thapar.
