Punjab plans Rs 36,000-cr funding for 5 power projects

Amritsar: Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal on Wednesday said his government would invest Rs 36,000 crore to set up five power projects during the next four years to generate over 6,400 mw electricity.
“We are planning to set up four thermal power projects in Amritsar, Rajpura, Gidderbaha and Mansa, and a hydel project at Sahapur Khadi,” Badal told reporters on the sidelines of a function. The current installed power capacity of the state is 6,400 mw and the state plans to more than double this by 2013.
“We hope to more than double the generation capacity of the state in the next four years,” Badal said, adding the state is awaiting coal linkage for the Giddarbaha project.
