PSEB chairman's sons beat up cop, booked
Balwant Garg , TNN 2 December 2009,
FARIDKOT: Talk about power and its fallacy. Barely a day after traffic cops in Sikkim were lauded for showing the rule book to two ministers, their counterpart in Punjab was thrashed in full public glare for performing his duty most diligently.

Assistant sub inspector Gurmail Singh, who is the traffic wing incharge, was beaten up in the main market on Tuesday afternoon after he confronted Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) chairman Harinder Singh Brar’s two sons for wrong parking. Furious at this, and perhaps driven by a misplaced sense of power, Brar’s sons Dapinder alias Sunny and Amaninder Singh alias Bunny grabbed the cop by his collar and beat him black and blue even as others, including police personnel, watched horrified.

Since the assailants are known to be politically well connected, none dared to intervene and rescue the beleaguered officer. As the word spread and senior officers rushed to the spot, the siblings summoned their friends to bolster ranks. They also pulled out revolvers and snatched cameras of three scribes when they began clicking photographs.

Yet, despite such brazen act, the police took their time filing a criminal case against the accused.
